Did you know there’s an International\u00a0Kayaking Day?\u00a0Well… neither did I, until recently.\u00a0 And June 26 was that memorable\u00a0day.\u00a0It inspired me\u00a0to put together a list of some of\u00a0the most beautiful kayak routes in Europe, and\u00a0this is the result:\u00a0five\u00a0accessible\u00a0kayak routes\u00a0through beautiful areas.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kayaking in the Ardennes with the whole family<\/h2>\n
Ourthe \u2013 Belgium<\/h5>\n

I’ll start off with my favourite river for a kayak trip,\u00a0the Ourthe\u00a0in the Belgian Ardennes.\u00a0Several years ago, I worked\u00a0at a campsite in the Ardennes,\u00a0Petite\u00a0Suisse<\/a>, and I followed this route down the Ourthe seven times.\u00a0I never got bored!\u00a0A kayak trip on the Ourthe is also ideal for children.\u00a0Push off from La Roche-en-Ardenne\u00a0and follow the small rapids through\u00a0the woody Ardennes.\u00a0Try to spot a kingfisher during the trip!\u00a0But there are many other beautiful kayak trails in\u00a0Belgium,\u00a0such as the\u00a0Semois\u00a0(Bouillon to\u00a0Pouehan)\u00a0and\u00a0Lesse\u00a0(Houyet\u00a0to\u00a0Anseremme).<\/p>\n

Sailing among the French castles<\/h2>\n
Dordogne – France<\/h5>\n

There are so many places in France where you can go\u00a0kayaking and\u00a0canoeing, like the valley of the\u00a0Lot or in Pont du Gard in\u00a0the Languedoc-Roussillon region. But I would\u00a0like to surprise you with a\u00a0trip to a\u00a0more original spot on\u00a0the\u00a0Dordogne, departing from\u00a0Les\u00a0Pendoilles\u00a0and\u00a0ending at Port\u00a0d’Envaux.\u00a0Take your time on this route 14-kilometre route, because there are so many beautiful things to see.\u00a0You’ll be sailing right next to, among other sites, the\u00a0castle of\u00a0Castelnaud, the castle of\u00a0Beynac,\u00a0and the beautiful city of la Roque-Gageac.\u00a0You could certainly classify this as a romantic kayak\u00a0trip, so take that special someone along with you.<\/p>\n

Enjoy the countryside of Brabant<\/h2>\n
Dommel – The Netherlands<\/h5>\n

Let’s\u00a0not forget that you can also go\u00a0kayaking\u00a0in the Netherlands!\u00a0You can\u00a0cruise through\u00a0the maze of river basins and sail in\u00a0the Biesbosch, or how about a trip through the\u00a0Weerribben-Wieden\u00a0in Overijssel?\u00a0But my favourite is still\u00a0the winding river, Dommel, where you can easily carve out a relaxing route along\u00a0green\u00a0meadows full of curious\u00a0cows.\u00a0There are also several places to tie off\u00a0for a nice picnic.\u00a0If you push off in Borkel, you can paddle to Valkenswaard in about two hours.<\/p>\n

The most beautiful river in Central Europe<\/h2>\n
Moldau \u2013 Czech Republic<\/h5>\n

When you’re on holiday in the\u00a0Czech Republic\u00a0you can’t go home before you’ve taken a kayak trip on the Moldau, or Vltava in Czech.\u00a0That river meanders through the\u00a0wooded area\u00a0of South Bohemia.\u00a0Be on the lookout for wild boar and deer\u00a0as you paddle\u00a0along historic cities.\u00a0The 10-kilometre route from\u00a0Vy\u0161\u0161\u00ed\u00a0Brod to\u00a0Ro\u017emberk Castle\u00a0is a must for everyone.\u00a0And once you’re there, don’t\u00a0forget\u00a0to pay a visit to\u00a0the castle\u00a0to round off you day out.\u00a0The Moldau\u00a0is one of the most beautiful rivers in Central Europe, so\u00a0keep in mind that\u00a0it can be\u00a0quite busy\u00a0on the water\u00a0in\u00a0high season.<\/p>\n

Brave the waterfalls in Dalmatia<\/h2>\n
Zrmanja \u2013 Croatia<\/h5>\n

Enjoying a nice Croatian beach holiday?\u00a0Then rent a\u00a0kayak\u00a0on the beach\u00a0and explore the special coastlines with many caves on the azure sea.\u00a0Prefer a river kayak route?\u00a0Then step into a kayak in Ka\u0161tela\u00a0\u017degarski.\u00a0Here you can follow a 15-kilometre kayak route down the\u00a0Zrmanja\u00a0River.\u00a0You’ll be paddling against a beautiful backdrop\u00a0on one of the clearest rivers in Europe.\u00a0Kayak through\u00a0a 200-meter-deep\u00a0canyon\u00a0and brave the waterfalls.\u00a0We recommend you hire a guide for this route.<\/p>\n
