There are various reasons why Suncamp has chosen not to install solar panels on the SunLodges. These reasons can be summarised in three important aspects: batteries, shade and price.

• 🔋 Batteries: One of the most important reasons is that SunLodges often do not have the battery capacity required to store solar energy. Solar panels generate electricity when the sun shines, but this energy must be stored in order to be able to use it when the sun does not shine, such as at night. Since SunLodges do not usually have large battery systems, the energy generated would not be able to be stored and used, making the installation of solar panels less useful.
• 🌳 Shade:Another aspect is that SunLodges are often surrounded by trees, other accommodations or other obstacles that would cast shade on the roofs. Solar panels need direct sunlight to generate efficient electricity. If the solar panels were constantly in the shade, their energy yield would be reduced considerably. This means that, even if solar panels were installed on the SunLodges, they might not be able to produce enough solar energy to provide for the energy needs of the accommodation.
• 💰 Price: Finally, the costs also play a role in the decision made not to install solar panels on SunLodges. Installing solar panels and the accompanying infrastructure may involve a considerable investment. Since SunLodges are generally seasonal accommodations and often located at campsites or holiday parks, the pay-back period for such investments is relatively long. For these reasons, it is not financially feasible for Suncamp to install solar panels on SunLodges at this time.

Thus the restricted battery capacity, the presence of shade and the high costs are the most important factors that hold Suncamp back from installing solar panels on SunLodges. However, it is important to note that this decision is based on current circumstances and that future technological developments may offer new possibilities.
