Behold the most beautiful sites
Staying at a campsite in Rome ensures you can experience a wealth of beautiful sites in the city, from palaces and fountains to ancient theatres and churches. Here are a few selected sites which you should not miss on your visit to Rome:
- Vatican City
The Vatican City is the smallest independent state in the world and is in Rome. It is the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church. The Pope lives here in the beautiful Apostolic Palace on St. Peter's Square. You should also visit the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel, with its famous frescoes by Michelangelo.
- Castel Sant’Angelo
This beautiful building was originally a mausoleum. The castle later served as a place to house the papal treasures. You can reach the castle via a bridge which carries you across the river Tiber and has ten angels on either side.
The largest amphitheatre in the Roman Empire was built in the 1st Century AD. This impressive piece of architecture was originally used for the emperor's games. You can discover the history of the gladiators in the Colosseum.
Rome for children
Ancient Rome is also suitable for the youngsters in your family. We're sure that they will be amazed by all of the incredible buildings in the city, however at a certain point they will perhaps have had enough 'culture' for one holiday. When this happens take them to Bioparco di Roma. This excellent zoo is in the beautiful Villa Borghese estate. You will also find more animals amongst the temple ruins at Largo di Torre Argentina. Today this ancient square is predominantly a place where people take care of stray cats. Enthusiastic volunteers look after the cats every day and will tell you everything about 'cat square'. This makes an unusual change for you and your children!
